No matter how unusual or extreme those in our care behave, it is important to realize that nearly all challenging behavior serves a purpose for the individual.  This class will recognize behaviors, their influences, and therapeutic approaches when dealing with challenging behaviors that commonly occur in adults with developmental disabilities.

The learner will be able to:

• Identify challenging behaviors and the situations that underlie them.
• Recognize signs and symptoms of the onset of behaviors.
• Apply methods to assist residents to develop acceptable behaviors.
• Recognize the benefits of utilizing professional therapeutic attitudes and approaches when working with adults with developmental disabilities.
