About Bed Bugs and Other Bug Exposures in Assisted Living

Description

Over the past ten years, there has been a steady increase in the number of bug infestations in health care. Although bed bugs, lice, and fleas, as well as exposure to ticks and mosquitoes, are typically not considered a serious health risk to the individual affected, there are concerns care staff must consider.  This course reviews what to look for and how to manage bug bites and infestations.

  • Describe how bug bites affect residents and the illnesses that can result from exposure.
  • Identify methods of controlling and preventing exposure to diseases transmitted by insects.
  • Recognize different infestations and recall caregiver responsibilities regarding infestations.
