When a person with dementia has declining mental abilities, they often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support. Caregiver support is needed for the person to retain their sense of identity and feelings of self-worth.

The learner will be able to:

• Better assist residents with ADLs as they show progression through the stages of dementia.
• Review scenarios of best practices to care for residents with dementia.
• Recognize signs of malnutrition and dehydration as dementia worsens.
• Recognize how care changes as dementia progresses.
